ETA3, 12/5/2008 | | | Reviewer: Peggy and Bob Paris (Brownsville/South Padre Island, ) | | My husband and I were privileged to attend the concert by ETA3. The three musicians from Japan, Russia, and the USA, all graduates of Julliard provided a rare quality of performance that thrilled the audience more with every piece. One particularly outstanding number was played on the flute but mimicked a percussion instrument and a zoom tube, a children's toy. I hope to have opportunity to hear many more El Paseo presentations. |

Nunsense, 8/25/2008 | | | Reviewer: Alice Hanson (Lakeville, Mn, ) | I hope you have a repeat of "Encore" for the winter Texans. I am sorry I could not have seen the production, but hope to be in the area by Oct. . |

Le Duo Francois, 6/15/2008 | | | Reviewer: Will Schwartz (South Padre Island, ) | On Monday evening, June 2, El Paseo Arts Foundation sponsored another fine concert at the convention Center. Featured artists were Ron Francois, violinist and his wife, pianist Sylvana Santinelli. The program opened with Beethoven's G-major Sonata, alternatively majestic and light-hearted. Technical precision was impeccable with the tonal sonority of the violin blending beautifully with the rich harmonies and rhythms of the piano. As is typical in Sonata literature, both parts are equally important with suble role changes between solo and support. Next, violinist Francois offered a sterling rendition on Sonata No. 1 by Eugene Ysaye from the 6 monumental sonatas for violin alone. This work, quoting Gregorian chants, exploits every musical potential on instrument and performer. Following intermission, the couple returned for a powerful rendition of the great Cesar Frank Sonata. The wonderful singing tone of the violin blended with the sumptuous voice of the piano, resulting in a colorful highlight of the program. The performance concluded with the lively Spanish Dance from La Vida Beve by Manuel De Falla. The husband-wife team is resident faculty at Colorado State University where they perform regularly in addition to concert tours. An appreciative audience offered several stading ovations. El Paseo Arts Foundation merits thanks for presenting these cultural events. Next on the agenda might be for someone to come forward to promote the acquisition of a grand piano to avoid the necessity and expense for any program requiring the use of keyboard. |
